More Monsters...and a Monster Glyph FREEBIE

I put together my monster classroom set over the summer and my students are really lovin' the cutie monsters.  I thought it had everything I needed...but low and behold I had to make a couple more additions.  You can check out my original post here.

Here are my newest additions:

I plan on hanging mine on twine with clothespins.  I'll post a pic when I get it up on Monday.

If you already purchased my monster set, then you will just need to go back and re-download it to get the additions.  If you are interested in purchasing my monsters, you can click here to head to my store.

Now for the freebie:

I also just finished my new Hallway Monsters.  These monsters are big and bright and sure to brighten the hallway.  These monsters are not included in the monster classroom set, but they are available separately in my TPT store.  Click the image below to head straight there.

You can simply laminate and attach clothespins.  I added painted bottle caps for an added pop of color.  I got mine at Hobby Lobby.  The set had all the colors included.  You could also use buttons or washi tape.  The set contains both color and black and white versions.  The black and white are great if you would like students to color their own monsters to make a one of a kind hall monster.
The Wanted Posters are an adorable activity we did with Miss Nelson Is Missing. I didn't create it, and I've searched everywhere to find the original source.  It was a great freebie.  If it's yours, please let me know! I'd love to share the link.

P.S. As always, I'd love to give a copy of my hallway monsters to the first 2 people that leave a comment.  Please don't forget to leave your e-mail.  Thanks Bunches!!!

Monster Theme

I am so excited to finally have a classroom theme. I tried a frog theme once many years ago, and that didn't last!  I went out and bought everything frogs, got it all up, and took it all down by the end of the day.  Nothing against frogs, they just weren't for me.

At the beginning of the summer, I came across JW Illustration's monster clip art and fell in love. Oh my gosh, they are so cute!  It started as just a monster sign and spiraled into this MONSTERpiece.

Here are a few pics of a few of the items in this set:

I'm going to use badge holders this year for my hall passes, but there are also large passes in the set.

If you are a monster fan, then you can check it out in my store by clicking the image below.

P.S. The first 2 people to comment will get it for free.  Don't forget to leave your e-mail.
Thanks bunches!!!

Weather Themed Behavior Clip Chart

I must seem cuckoo for changing my behavior system the last 3 weeks of school, but golly it seems to have worked out in my favor.  This is that time of year when spring summer fever hits, and our classes really start to get stir crazy, it seems like this clip chart change was just what my class needed.  My kiddos really like our new clip chart and are trying so hard to get to that pot of gold at the very top.  My previous behavior system was very similar, but I used a painted yardstick and green was at the very top.  They could only go downward and not up, which just wasn't working for me any longer.  My kiddos that work so hard and set good examples really needed to be acknowledged for their great behavior.

Why the weather theme??? Well, I've had weather on my mind lately, most likely because Texas has been having really crazy weather these last few weeks.  I think one day last week it was colder in South Texas than it was in NYC. I'm freezing one day and sunburned the next- no wonder all of our kids are getting sick. The more I thought about a theme for my chart, weather just seemed like the logical choice, and it really makes perfect sense when you start connecting it to behavior. When I'm having a great day, I feel "over the rainbow" and when I'm having an awful day, "stormy" is a pretty good description of how I feel.

I decided to make each section a full page, because I really wanted it to be prominent in the classroom.  Behavior is a big deal, so I really wanted them to be able to see the chart clearly and take notice of where they are at any given moment.  I have mine hanging right at the front of the room on the dry erase board.

Sound Check & Body Check Charts

I'm joining up with Tara from 4th Grade Frolics for her Monday Made-It.  One of my summer projects was to make a Sound Check Chart for next year.

For a free copy, click the image below.

It's fairly large which will make it visible regardless of where you are in the classroom.   I'm using a clothespin with a button attached to designate the sound level.  If the clip is on Table Voice, then only the members of their table should be able to hear their voices.  Teacher Voice is their louder speaking voice.  This is generally the voice they use when they are reading aloud or sharing with the class.

I was inspired by a chart I saw on Pinterest when I created mine.  The original sound chart was by Katie at Little Kinder Warriors.

I had a request for a Body Level Chart (see comment below).  I thought that was a great idea!!!  So, I added it to this post.  I put the Not Allowed symbol over Level 1-Asleep.  My second graders should not be asleep! But, if you have young students that have a nap time, there is a sign that does not have the not allowed symbol. Thanks so much for a great idea, and hope it will work for you in your classroom.

Choosing Caps

So, this is yet another way to recycle baby food jar lids.  This is my alternative to choosing sticks.  If you saw my post on Mother's Day parent gifts,  you'll notice I've found yet another use for the oodles of baby food jar lids I've been saving.  I really loved the colorful Mother's Day magnets and wanted something similar for my classroom. I've always used popsicle sticks to make choosing sticks, but I have to make a new set every year with new names.  Each of my students is assigned a number at the beginning of the year, so I just put colorful numbers on the inside of each cap and can draw a number instead of a name.  I figured they'll also make great math manipulatives, as well! Click here for the pattern.  You have to download the document in order for the numbers to show up with the correct font.

Compliment Clips

There are so many different versions of this.  I had seen compliment chains on-line several years ago and thought they were a  great idea, but wanted to simplify it just a bit.  I wanted something that my Star of the Day could easily add the compliments to for me.  These are any compliments our class receives from other teachers or staff throughout the day.  Anyone besides myself, because I should be giving LOTS of compliments during the day.  Anyhow, I was at my favorite store, Target, and found a bright red flower pot and also spotted some colorful clothespins, and it sparked the idea of compliment clips.  We add a clothespin for each compliment, and on the 10th clip they get an extra 10 min. of recess.  They work extra hard for compliments and they are super proud of themselves when they receive one.
