Weather Quilt

While we were studying weather, my students made quilt squares for different weather words.  Well time got away from me and I'm finally getting our quilt put together this week.  They are still working on weather powerpoints in Technology, so luckily it's still fresh in their minds. Below are some their quilt squares along with the template I used.  In the squares, they could either write weather facts or make connections to the weather word in the center of their quilt square.   The weather cards in the middle, I got from PreKinders.com.  A great site for additional weather activities.

Seasons

Love teaching seasons although my kiddos don't see very many different seasons here in Texas.  In fact, most of the students in my class have never even seen snow! I use this simple quad for students to illustrate the different seasons. Short and sweet but they always turn out adorable.

Weather Portfolios

We did a unit on weather right before Spring Break and my kiddos had a blast. Our class weather chart came out really adorable. They did a lot of different writing activities and I love incorporating poetry wherever possible.  The Important Writing was my favorite using one of my favorite books, The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown.  We discussed the following cloud types- cumulus, cumulonimbus, stratus, and cirrus.  Then, my students chose their favorite type of cloud to write a cloud poem about. The Rainbow Simile Activity was an idea I loved from Fabulous Firstie's Blog.
