Easter Fun!

Happy Easter Weekend!!! I am certainly welcoming this 3 day weekend.  Yesterday was a super busy day in the classroom and we had so much fun!!!!  Our second graders don't traditionally do egg hunts in the classroom.  It is usually reserved for our kindergartners, but I decided to turn egg hunting into a math lesson.

I began with an egg for each student.  I simply put a NO Homework pass inside with some candies.  I also found some cute little bunny shaped crayons at Walmart that I included.

Each egg had a math problem on the outside that students had to solve.  I used 2 digit subtraction problems in which the answers were my students numbers in the classroom.  So, basically each egg had an answer of 1-19.  I had them walk around with clipboards and scratch paper searching for eggs and solving the problems until they found the egg which resulted in their number.  I didn't really hide the eggs.  They were in plain view, but they had to go through several eggs to find their own.  It was a great activity, because they didn't have to rush around frantically searching for eggs.  They knew each one of them had their very own egg.  They just had to figure out which was theirs!

They were probably most excited that inside the egg was a no homework pass!!!  No homework passes seem to be a sure way to put a smile on their faces.  You can get them for free by clicking the image below.

We also did a little bit of Easter themed persuasive writing.  Their job was to persuade me that they would be the best choice for an Easter Bunny Assistant.  I read aloud the Easter Bunny's Assistant before they began writing, and that book is seriously adorable.

Here are a few of their writing pieces:

They created their own bunny for their cover using my Build-A-Bunny Patterns:

After writing, it was time for a yummy treat!

I also took pictures of all my second grade bunnies.
Here's a picture of my favorite bunny, my Greysen!  I added their pics to a template that is included in the same resource as above.  I got the cute little bunny sunglasses at Walmart.

Wishing everyone a safe and glorious Easter! God Bless!

Build a Bunny

So, I had a crazy idea! I was looking at my toddler's Build-a-Bear on the floor,
and decided I was going to make a Build-a Bunny Craftivity.

I'm not sure yet if I'm going to display the bunnies on a bulletin board, or maybe place them on the cover of a large piece of construction paper with the Easter eggs, character traits page, and writing piece on the inside.  I really think it would make a great addition to the writing portfolios we put together at the end of the year.

Here is a picture of the bunny I made:

They won't all be exactly the same, so they would make a cute bulletin board display.  I'm sure a few of my kiddos will have grey and brown bunnies.  There is a blank egg pattern, so they can decorate it however they like.

The idea of the mini-unit is for students to imagine that the Easter Bunny is retiring and they are looking for a new bunny to fill his shoes.  They will have to persuade the current Easter Bunny to choose them.  They will use this page to list the 3 reasons why they should be chosen.

Then, students will introduce themselves as the new Easter Bunny with this little handout.  They will draw themselves as the Easter Bunny and write describing words/character traits to describe a good Easter Bunny.  *** I decided to return to this post to add some examples from my classroom, instead of the example I had originally posted (the bunny I drew was a little scary looking).
These are much cuter!

There is also writing paper for students to write what their first day as the Easter Bunny might be like.  What might their first adventure be like?  I also love to read Jan Brett's Book, The Easter Egg.  It's a great read aloud for Easter!

You can get this at my TPT store and hope you have a Happy Easter!!!!

Check out their adorable bunnies- all very unique!

Bunny Craft

Wow, am I ever ready for the 3 day holiday weekend! We had a fun-filled day of Easter read alouds, crafts, cupcakes, and ended the day with a walk-a-thon.   Anyone selling over $100 got to throw a pie at a staff member.  Yikes, I just narrowly escaped getting a pie in the face :)

For our bunny craft, we created Easter eggs using an idea I found on Pinterest.  It's so simple- you just need paper towels, washable markers and a little water to make the colors bleed together. Click here to see where the idea came from originally.  Then, we just added a rabbit to go with our colorful eggs.  My class had a blast and it was really easy to do.
