Monster Awards

This school year is coming to an end and I am so sad that I will not be ending the year with the festivities, farewells and sweet hugs that I have always been accustomed to.  My little ones did an amazing job with their distance learning and a huge shout out to all the parents that became home school teachers on top of the million and one things they already do.  THANK YOU!!!!

I wanted to start by sharing a fantastic read aloud that helps young children understand exactly what a pandemic is.   My own son was struggling with missing school, family members, and friends, so I pulled out this sweet little book that a coworker recommended.  It was a perfect way to help him understand that other children feel exactly the same way he does.  It is a great story to share with any young child struggling to understand why things have changed.

It is hard to believe that this is my last full week with my Firsties.  We will not be able to hold our usual Awards Assemblies, or even send report cards as we would normally do, so I wanted to have a little something virtual for them.  In the past, I would send Monster Awards along with their report cards.   This year, I will send a virtual Monster Award to each of my students.  If you previously purchased these certificates, please re-download them HERE for the updated version.  The resource now contains full size certificates and they are editable.

Clip Art and ABC Farewell

It's has been awhile since I last posted.  I've actually been sick and totally exhausted.  I've also given up sugar and sweets, so my lack of soda may have something to do with that exhaustion.  There's only one week left of school, and saying goodbye to my second graders will be so sad.  With goodbyes on my mind, I decided to create End of Year ABC's.  We start the year, with our ABC's of second grade, so I thought we'd end in a similiar fashion.  It's a FREEBIE, just click below.

I also posted on TPT my Color Cuties Clipart.  If you haven't grabbed the black and white set.  You can get them for free here.  Here is a peek at the color set:

I'm off to bed, but I would like to give the color version to the first 3 people that leave a comment.  I will send it your way tomorrow, please don't forget to leave your e-mail.  Thanks :)

End of Year Class Book

Every year, we create a class book at the very end of the year for our classroom Book Nook.  I laminate the pages and bind it together.   My students always seem to gravitate towards these books and look forward to making their own to add to our collection.  I've used several different formats over the years, but decided to stick with the same format as last year.  I also read it on the first day of school to my new class of second graders.   They love to read about the experiences of my prior students.

Reading Reward

I had to come up with something special as a reward for my kiddos that made their reading goals for the whole year.  Where better to look than Pinterest, of course! I found just what I was looking for.  I saw a birthday display using the large Pixie Sticks and balloons.  Check out her cute birthday display here.  I changed it up just a bit, and used flowers in lieu of the balloons, because of our whole blossoming learners theme.  The kids absolutely loved them!

End of Year Craft

I can't believe the end of the year is nearly here.  This year seemed to fly by.  The last day for most of my students will be this Friday, and I wanted them to have a fun craft to take home with them on the last day of school.  I was watching Nick Jr. with my toddler the other day, and saw a cute fish craft using a soda bottle.  I also had seen a cute label from a fellow blogger and had to use the idea to make a cute tag for our fish craft. You can see her original label idea here. We'll glue the tag on the bottom of our fish.  We've been talking about fish in science so my kiddos will be able to make connections to the fish diagrams we made in class.  Hopefully they will remember the names of the different fins!  The completed fish craft will look like this:
